Laboratory was established in 1938 as Agrobotanical Department – Laboratory for Agricultural Research within Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad, which mainly organized and maintained field trials.
Laboratory started testing seed quality in 1945 and became ISTA (International Seed Testing Association) member.
In 1999 Laboratory disintegrated from the Institute becoming an independent organization “National Seed Testing Laboratory”.
Laboratory, with all of its technique, technology and employees became once again an organizational unit of Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad on November 3, 2008 becoming Seed Testing Laboratory.
Laboratory implemented Quality Management System in 1996.
Laboratory fulfils requirements of the standard ISO/IEC 17025 General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories.
Laboratory received ISTA accreditation in 2000, and successful ISTA reaccreditations in 2003, 2006 and 2009.
Laboratory received JUAT (Yugoslavian Accreditation Body) Accreditation Certificate no. 01-071 in 2003, and was reaccredited by ATS (Serbian Accreditation Body) in 2009.
With ISO ISTA accreditation, labour organization and responsibilities of each employee were elevated to a higher level. Seed Testing Laboratory is involved in a network of comparative tests through which Laboratory complies its testing methods to foreign ones. Quality Managemet System thus guarantees further development of the Laboratory and a key for business success in fierce international competition.
Laboratory is also a member of AOSA (Association of Official Seed Analysts) and an active member in in the establishment of YUSEA (Yugoslavian Seed Business Association) which gathers all participants in the process of seed production, processing and testing. This Association includes both national and international companies as its members.
Contemporary equipment and highly qualified staff ensure complete, equal and neutral seed quality analyses. Laboratory employs 21 in total (18 full-time employees and 3 under contract), out of which 1 hold a PhD, 4 hold a MSc, 6 hold a BSc, in addition to 9 analysts and one administration staff member.
Laboratory owns most up-to-date equipment necessary for technical and scientific research regarding seed quality of all field and vegetable plant species, grasses, medicinal and woody plants.
