Slovenian agriculture advisors visited Institute

Slovenački savetodavci u poseti Institutu

Delegation of 27 advisors for field, vegetable and forage crops from Chamber of Agriculture and Forestry of Slovenia, Farm Agriculture Service (FAS) visited Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops on 17 September 2014. FAS consists of 280 advisors from eight regions: Celje, Kranj, Ljubljana, Maribor, Murska Sobota, Nova Gorica, Novo Mesto and Ptuj. Dr. Janko Červenski – Head of Vegetable Department and Dr. Svetlana Balešević-Tubić – Assistant Director for Seed Production and Processing greeted guests and introduced them to Institute’s work and organisation. Lectures were held by Dr. Vojin Đukić, Research Associate on soybean cultivation practices, Dr. Đura Karagić, Head of Forage Crops Department and Seed Production Research Associate, and Dr. Mirjana Vasić, Principal Research Fellow on Plant Breeding in Vegetable Department. read more…

Despite unfavourable weather, Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops Novi Sad gathered around 2,500 people at Rimski Šančevi on 5 September 2014. Numerous government officials, foreign ambassadors, national and international researchers and agricultural producers, were among visitors of our Field Day.

Guests were greeted by the director of the Institute, Dr. Jegor Miladinović, and his associates. Remarkable number of foreign partners was justified by the fact that Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops has created about thousand cultivars and hybrids, from which one half is cultivated around the world, in more than 30 countries.

All of the information and recommendations on seed purchase of NS cultivars and hybrids, as well as technical advice of Institute’s employees were available on decorated stands of the laboratories and departments. read more…



The Danube Soya Association and Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops Novi Sad organised Field Day “Danube Soya” on 3 September 2014. The Danube Soya Association was established as independent, international and non-profit organisation with headquarters in Vienna. The main objective of this association is promotion of non-GMO soybean in Danube region, of which Serbia with 170,000 ha occupies the central place.

Attendees were firstly greeted by the director of the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops, Dr. Jegor Miladinović, who expressed hope for further cooperation among all interested producers, as well as among representatives of the Institute and Danube Soya Association. read more…

Participation in Joint EUCARPIA Cereal Section & ITMI Conference titled Cereals for Food, Feed and Fuel-Challenge for Global Improvement

During the period June 29 – July 5, 2014, Dr. Sanja Vasiljević and Dr. Nikola Hristov visited Wernigerode, Germany, as participants of “Cereals for Food, Feed and Fuel – Challenge for Global Improvement” conference, jointly organised by EUCARPIA Cereal Section and ITMI. Over 300 participants from nearly 50 world countries attended the conference.

Significance of cereal genetic resources was discussed and concept of wheat hybrid development was demonstrated. Also, resistance mechanisms toward economically significant diseases of four main cereals (wheat, barley, rye and oats) were displayed. read more…

Chinese Delegation Visit to Oil Crops Department

Chinese delegation consisting of Huang Xutang, Zhang Ming, Guan Fengzhi and Wang Wenjun visited Oil Crops Department in the period 23-30 June 2014, within the bilateral cooperation project between Republic of Serbia and People’s Republic of China, titled „Development and implementation of new sunflower genotypes by exchange of genetic materials and the improvement of existing technologies“.

On Tuesday, 24 June 2014, Head of Oil Crops Department, Dr. Vladimir Miklič gave a welcome speech to a Chinese delegation. After that, Zhang Ming introduced everyone to Heilongjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and Dr. Sreten Terzić, Dr. Sandra Cvejić, Dr. Nada Hladni and Dr. Milan Jocković gave their presentations. read more…

The Institute participated in agricultural forum in Saratov “VolgaAgro – 2014″

International agricultural forum “VolgaAgro – 2014″ was held in Saratov, Russia on 3 July  2014. Representatives of the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops, Vladimir Strugar – Assistant Director for Commerce, Dr. Sandra Cvejić – Research Associate on sunflower breeding, and Dragana Savin – Russian language teacher, were participants of the forum. Dr. Sandra Cvejić presented the work of the Institute and achievements in sunflower breeding. She spoke on Institute’s establishment, development, its laboratories, Oil Crops Department, sunflower breeding program and methods of solving problems that arise during sunflower cultivation. read more…

Syngenta visit to the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops

On June 26, Syngenta’s sunflower breeding team from every breeding centre of the company in the world visited the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad. Assistant Director for Science, Dr. Dragana Miladinović, greeted guests, while Dr. Vladimir Miklič introduced them to organisation, program and offer of our Institute, and presented in detail our breeding program and Oil Crops Department.

Presentation was followed by discussion and sharing experience on breeding, seed production and sunflower research related activities. Visit to a new maize Processing Centre signified the beginning of a tour through Experimental Fields and facilities at Rimski Šančevi. read more…

Institute awarded with “Business Partner Extra” for 2014

On 17 June 2014 at ceremony in hotel Metropol Palace regional awards “Business Partner 2014” were delivered by Mass Media International from Belgrade.

In a very strong competition, Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops was awarded with “Business Partner Extra” for 2014, as an institution with special contribution to the improvement of business environment in Serbia and regional integration. Dr. Vojislav Mihailović, Assistant Director for Organization of Production and Product Placement, received the award on behalf of the Institute. So, once again, the Institute deservedly ranked in line with companies and institutions such as Telekom Serbia and the Royal Netherlands Embassy.

The award “Business Partner” was delivered for the twentieth anniversary time to companies and institutions in our region for business excellence, ethics and responsibility in order to encourage better economic connectivity and prosperity in the region.

NS SEED donated the most to flooded areas

Dr. Jegor Miladinović, director of the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops, donated seeds and seed materials for 8,000 ha arable land in the flooded areas in Serbia.

Ten companies donated seed for reseeding fields damaged in floods, and the largest donation came from Institute, that is 40% of the material donated by these companies.

“In a situation which we had few weeks before, social function of the Institute became apparent when we made seed of early sunflower and maize hybrids, as well as soybean cultivars available to the government in a total quantity needed to sow 8,000 ha. Also, our experts were available, visited flooded areas, participated in damage evaluation and gave advice”, said Dr. Miladinović for local newspapers. read more…
