Consortium “Silk Road Economic Belt” Founded in Yangling, China

ucesnici-02Tripartite delegation from the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad, consisting of Director of the Institute Prof. Dr. Jan Turan, Assistant Director for Science Dr. Sanja Vasiljević, and Head of Forage Crops Department Dr. Đura Karagić, was invited by Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office Yi Jin from the Northwest A&F University, Yangling, China to take part at the Convention of the Alliance “Silkroad Agricultural Education and Research Innovation Alliance” in the period 4-7 November 2016.

This Convention was organized to found the Consortium, comprising 30 institutions (universities and research institutes) from Eurasian countries, such as China, Kazakhstan, Russia, Poland, Kirgizia, Jordan, Israel, Morocco, Italy, along the “New Silk Road” aiming at improved international collaboration in research and higher education. After the multilateral Yangling Declaration was signed, the members of the Alliance presented their respective institutions and their vision of the future collaboration, primarily regarding student education and research. In the name of the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops, Dr. Sanja Vasiljević gave the presentation “Improvement of Protein Strategy on the New Silk Road’s Economic Belts” on the first day of the Convention. Beside the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad, two other institutions from Serbia sent their delegates to the Alliance Convention – University of Belgrade, Faculty of Agriculture and University of Novi Sad, Faculty of Agriculture. On the second day, the General Assembly of the Alliance approved the Regulation of the Alliance and enacted the Action Planning of the Alliance for the period 2016-2020. The follow-up activities for the 2017 were also proposed, such as Alliance website and Academic Forum in the Alliance member countries from the Central Asia. During the Convention, the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops signed several bilateral agreements with universities from few Chinese provinces, which is a sound basis for the improvement of cooperation with PR China.
